The metaphor of the Cyclops, I enjoy the concept of no depth perception. I actually explained the concept of the Cyclops to my daughter this way. "Look into somebody's eyes and then walk towards them till you're nearly nose to nose. When you do that your neighbor becomes a cyclops. In one sense this closeness is a surface level intimacy that is meant to be only for your lover and friend. Offices governments churches and other entities become Cyclopses when they take on the role of a lover and friend without the qualification or authority to be such."
There is a place for cyclopses beyond that place it is a curse. Outside of the marriage bed, Cyclops is devour and in the end are blinded by those to whom they devoured.
